Track your donations and follow-up. 

Tracking your donations for each charity that you give allows you to see your progress over the years and where your money is going.  It also makes a handy reference during tax time!

Following up with how the charity used your donation is important. You want to make sure they used it for what they said they did, that they provided you with a receipt (email is fine) of your gift, and that they did the work you wanted them to do. Don't just assume that they are doing good work, make sure that they are.
