About

Mission

Pico Foundation provides education and opportunity for everyone to engage in charitable giving and civic engagement.

Vision

We want to be your source for nonprofit evalution and measurement. We want you to feel like your in control of your giving and to have your own pico foundation (a pico meter is just smaller than a nano meter). We want to make giving fun and personally rewarding. We want you to make your giving decisions yourself. No pressure and no guilt giving.

What we do and why we exist

Pico Foundation wants to help you manage your charitable giving. As small donors, we always felt that our donations were spread all over the place. We would respond to one crisis after another or wait to be solicited by a nonprofit before we gave. There was no common theme to our giving. It felt scattered and sometimes like it wasn't going to help anything. So we decided to take charge of our giving and act like a large foundtion.  Pico Foundation was created to help everyone evalute and rate nonprofits, no matter how small or large their charitable donattions are.

We choose to work on problems that we wanted to solve rather than continue to give to nonprofits that asked. We created categories for giving, for example: the environment, arts & culture, disaster relief, and animal welfare. We selected nonprofits that we thought rated highly, we used our own data, and we followed up on the nonprofit's performance. At the end of the year, we could measure the impact that our gifts make based on factors that we could control. We called this our social impact.

Your Impact

At Pico Foundaiton, we do not measure social impact by the amount of money you give, but by how dedicated you are to solving a problem and how much effort you put into deciding where your money goes. Your social impact of your donations is measured by the actions and factors that are in your control not the nonprofits. Ultimately, you have very little if any control what a nonprofit does with your money, who they hire and how they approach problem solving. So your impact is measured on how well you do your research and how dedicated you are to solving a particular problem. How do we measure impact? We take into account a variety of factors over which you have control: years of consecutive giving, amount of research completed prior to giving, follow-up research after you make a donation, and other types of involvement with nonprofits and issues you are working to solve.

If you have given to a nonprofit, check out your social impact!
